About
Course Description The Art of Listening™: The Heart of Teaching & Learning is a professional-learning course designed to help educators use intentional listening as a tool for instruction, literacy development, classroom relationships, student accountability, and responsive teaching. This course moves listening beyond simply being quiet while another person speaks. Educators will explore how listening can help them determine: What students understand. What students misunderstand. Whether foundational skills are secure. How students are processing information. Why a student may be struggling. When students need support. When students are ready for greater independence. The course also examines an equally important responsibility: Teaching students how to listen. Listening is not only something educators should do. Students need to learn how to listen to: Directions. Questions. Ideas. Feedback. One another. Their own reading. Their own thinking. A classroom built around meaningful listening creates greater opportunities for understanding, participation, responsibility, and learning.
