Course Description The Art of Comprehension™ is a practical professional-learning course designed to help educators recognize, teach, assess, and strengthen comprehension across the curriculum. This course begins with one fundamental question: They can read it—but do they understand it? A student may demonstrate strong decoding skills. A student may read with excellent fluency. A student may pronounce difficult vocabulary. A student may complete an entire passage. But after reading, can the student answer: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Can the student identify what is important? Can the student explain the information in their own words? Can the student make connections? Can the student determine cause and effect? Can the student explain why something happened? Can the student use evidence from the text? Can the student take what was learned and use it somewhere else? Can the student apply the learning? These questions move us from reading words to understanding meaning.
